If there’s one thing that Savannah isn’t short of, it’s places to shop. In the Historic District some of the cutest spots to shop are tucked into the first and second stories in huge historic buildings. Every corner offers boutiques and brand names. For a first-time explorer, the best places to go aren’t always the most obvious. Here are a few spots with some of the best shops in Downtown Savannah.
River Street
If you’re looking for a souvenir, then this is the place to be. Along the cobblestone streets overlooking the Savannah River are some of the most delightful shops carrying all kinds of Savannah goodies, from honey to T-shirts, candy, key chains, jewelry, accessories and much more. Just don’t forget to go up the historic River Street steps and check out Upper Factors Walk, because there are quaint shops and great boutiques to discover there as well!
City Market
Culture meets the streets at City Market. It’s here you’ll find a wealth of art in galleries all over this four-block market which has been a city center since the early 1700s. Clothing boutiques, restaurants, a candy store and even a shop that your pup will love, can all be found here. Every night this hub off Ellis Square comes to life with live music outside at Wild Wing Café and at several of the bars and restaurants nearby.
Broughton Street
For the serious shoppers, head on over to Broughton Street, where small thrift shops collide with brand name retailers, which include H&M, Free People, Banana Republic, Urban Outfitters and J. Crew. Favorites like the Savannah Bee Company and Leopold’s Ice Cream draw visitors to this hot spot. The variety of places to shop lures locals and visitors alike all day long. Whether it’s accessories, clothing, jewelry, furniture, you’re sure to find it and more on Broughton Street.
Whitaker Street
If you’re wondering where all of the local fashion boutiques hiding, it’s in Savannah’s Downtown Design District – on Whitaker Street just north of Forsyth Park! But it’s not just clothing you’ll find on Whitaker. Many shops that locals adore, including Custard Boutique, La Paperie and One Fish Two Fish are also on Whitaker St.
Tanger Outlets
And while Downtown Savannah is a magnificent place to shop, Savannah has its own outlet stores just 15 minutes away. Tanger Outlets opened in the spring of 2015 and has been attracting hundreds every week since. All kinds of great brand names and popular shops await with great sales at Tanger.
Malls
There are two malls on the Southside of Savannah outside of the Historic District. Locals frequent for all kinds of clothes and gifts at the Oglethorpe Mall and the Savannah Mall. Both are located on Abercorn Street about 15 to 20 minutes outside of Downtown Savannah. Macy’s, JCPenney, Belk and Sears anchor the Oglethorpe Mall. The Savannah Mall is anchored by Dillard’s, Target, Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World and Burlington Coat Factory.
