The Bluff Hotel Savannah Historic District is situated in the heart of Savannah’s Historic District.
A Brief History:
The Bluff Hotel is located on the historic Yamacraw Bluff, where General James Oglethorpe and British colonists arrived in 1733. It was here that Chief Tomochichi of the Creek Indians made an alliance with Oglethorpe that would be sealed by the Creek Indian Treaty. This treaty allowed for the colonization of Savannah and set its rich history in motion. Tomochichi continued to serve as a mediator between the native population and the new British settlers, keeping peace in the region. The Native Yamacraws eventually left the bluff to merge with a larger inland tribe, having occupied the bluff for less than two decades.
