The Savannah Art Association Gallery (SAA) is the oldest continuously operating art association in Georgia.
Established in 1920, in the basement of Mills B Lane’s home, the Savannah Art Association (SAA) has a long history of promoting the visual arts in Savannah. We welcome all levels of artists, from beginner to professional, in a friendly and nurturing environment. Artists help one another to learn new techniques, improve their work and succeed in the art world.
The SAA conducts exhibits, demonstrations, workshops and educational programs that support its members and the community at large.
We also provide opportunities for our members to showcase their work, by partnering with local business and associations willing to offer venues for openings and the other art events. Encouragement and recognition for outstanding work are facilitated through awards.
General membership meetings are held, with additional events, discussions, exhibits, and shows scheduled throughout the year.
“The Savannah Art Association has a lot of heritage,” added Phil Stark, a watercolorist and member of the gallery’s committee. “I think it’s an honor being part of something that’s as long-lasting and important as the Art Association has been.”
More than 120 artists are part of the SAA.
Their art is exhibited all around Savannah—including the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport among other locations. What will you find in one of their exhibitions? A little bit of everything and then some, including:
- fabric artists
- watercolors, acrylics and oil painters
- pastel artists
The SAA offers more than unique pieces to add to your art collection.
They also host workshops by nationally known instructors, high school art competitions and Children’s Holiday Playshops at the Oglethorpe Mall. They even organize an annual Plein Air Paint Out event, with demonstrations and competitions for prizes.
