With one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade in the United States, Georgia’s First City knows how to celebrate St. Paddy’s Day right. In addition to Celtic societies and Irish families, Savannah’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade features pipe bands and Irish dancers from all over the East Coast – Florida to New York. But it’s not limited to that; visitors from all over the world, even Ireland itself, come to Savannah to celebrate heritage in our spirited parade through Downtown Savannah.
Floats and marching units will hit the streets at 10:15 a.m. for Savannah’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which will feature more than 350 marching units and up to 15,000 people.
When it started in 1824, the parade was more of a military spectacle, with soldiers from different regimens marching in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. Except for major wars, including the Civil War and World War I, Savannah’s St. Patrick’s Day parade has run nearly every year for the past 198 years.
The parade begins at Gwinnett and Abercorn streets, just east of Forsyth Park and will travel along Abercorn Street to Broughton Street, where it will turn right towards East Broad Street. It will continue north on East Broad Street to East Bay Street and proceed down Bay until it reaches Bull Street, which it will turn on and continue down until it reaches Madison Square on Harris Street.
The parade will be a three-hour event. The parade will feature military divisions, award-winning bands, dance troupes, floats and the Budweiser Clydesdales. You can watch the parade from the sidewalks along the route, the historic squares or from balconies at accommodations on the parade route.
- Parade Viewing: Book bleacher seats early (via the Parade Committee website) for guaranteed spots, or stake out squares like Colonial Park Cemetery early for “land rush” spots.

Savannah Irish Festival: February 7-8, 2026, at the Alee Temple, with music, dance, vendors, and family fun.
Greening of the Fountain: Annually, just before St. Patrick’s Day (usually the Friday before March 17th).
It’s a tradition in Savannah to dye all of the fountains green and it all starts with everyone’s favorite – the fountain in Forsyth Park. During this ceremony, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshal pours green dye into the water with the help of friends and family. Noon. Free and open to the public.

Tybee Island Irish Heritage Celebration Parade: March 14 @ 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm EDT
Tybee Island is hosting the first parade of St. Patrick’s season on Saturday, March 14th from 3 to 5 pm. Now in its 23rd year, the annual Tybee Island Irish Heritage Celebration Parade is two hours of awesome jam-packed with music, marchers and so much more. The family-friendly float fest starts at Tybee City Hall and travels down Butler Avenue to Tybrisa Street. Wear your brightest green garb and get ready to party at the parade! McDonough’s Restaurant & Lounge
McDonough’s is the headquarters for the St.Patrick’s Day Festival in Savannah every year. McDonough’s is situated near, but not on, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade route. This prime location makes it a popular stop for locals and visitors in the know to grab a to-go drink before stepping back out to enjoy the festivities. Both local and visiting firefighters and first responders consider McDonough’s the place to be for St. Patrick’s Day.

Celtic Cross Ceremony: Sunday, March 15
Every year, Irish Catholics join together to celebrate their heritage with family and friends in a ceremony at the Celtic Cross Monument located at Emmet Park on Bay St. The ceremony honors the Irish in Savannah from the past, present and future. 1 p.m.
The Sgt. William Jasper Green Ceremony: Sunday, March 16
The Sgt. William Jasper Green Ceremony begins on Bull St. with the Grand Marshal along with military bands as they march to Madison Square for the Ceremony at 4:30 p.m. This formal ceremony will honor Sgt. William Jasper Green and all military with or without Irish descent.
The Feast Day of St. Patrick
A morning mass celebrating the Feast Day of St. Patrick takes place at the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist. 222 E. Harris St.
