Spartina 449 on Broughton Street.
Spartina 449 draws inspiration from Daufuskie Island, SC. It is an upscale Southern lifestyle brand, offering handbags, accessories, jewelry, apparel and more. They incorporate distinctive seaside themes and styles. Spartina 449 sells their wares in more than 1,500 shops across the nation. Their collections are trimmed with golden details and an iconic mermaid, reminders of the spirit of island living.
Store Manager Jessica Sferlazzo says Broughton Street gives us the opportunity to expose our brand in ways it hasn’t been seen before.
The 3,500-square-foot store features a wide selection of Spartina 449 products. Featured are their storied pattern linen and handbags, fashion jewelry, scarves and accessories. Also available is their unique Savannah Map Scarf, which includes all of the squares, highlighting places in the city.
“We also do Savannah bag, which is similar to our Sea Island tote,” says Sferlazzo.
Spartina 449’s has a signature Southern style. This is especially in their charm bracelet collection, which includes a sweet tea and Georgia peach charms. Carry a Spartina 449 bag, and you’re carrying Southern culture and heritage on your arm.
The company name originates from the lush, green cordgrass that flourishes in the saltwater marshes along the Georgia and Carolina coast.
Its Latin name? Spartina alterniflora. And the number 449? Well, it’s the address of that cozy cottage on Daufuskie Island where the Lowcountry landscapes and creaky floorboards helped bring a novel handbag company to life.
