In 1999 two SCAD graduates with degrees in historic preservation set out to restore the old Starland Dairy in downtown.

They believed that the Starland Dairy could become the catalyst. Not only the rebirth of a downtown district, but also for the birth of a real and functioning arts community in Savannah, separate from SCAD. This district was designed to be the hub for creative minds, businesses, and culture in Savannah. Today you will find a variety of shops, cafes, restaurants, and hang out spots. this makes it a hub of creativity and local community, as intended.
Among the many stops in the Starland District is a couple of local cafes that are perfect for stopping for a coffee and snack. One of the favorite local cafes in the area is Foxy Loxy, one of the coolest hang outs in town. At this café it is equal parts coffee shop, bakery, and a Tex-Mex cantina. You can satisfy your caffeine craving, or have one of their hand-crafted tacos, or unwind with a glass of wine. Live local music is also featured every Friday, and a fire pit for hang outs is available on Saturdays.
Another popular café featured in the district is the Starland Café. At this spot you can choose from an impressive selection of paninis, soups, salads, and specialty plates. All their items are homemade with organic ingredients, and all can be enjoyed with coffee and a beautiful outdoor seat. The yard has helped develop the Starland District and contributed to the appeal of this area and has kept visitors and locals coming back.
The Starland District is still growing, adding a new brewery this summer known as, The Underdog Brewing Company, which will focus on actual beer, affordable meals, and cool hang outs. Another addition coming to the district is the tiniest taproom ever, Smol Bar. Located at Two Tides Brewery, this bar will have beer, seltzer, cocktails, and cool vibes.
