Throw on your flip flops and your Jimmy Buffet best, grab the entire family and get ready for a weekend of great live music and the area’s freshest seafood from the restaurants that locals love! The 2014 River Street Seafood Fest will take place during First Friday & Saturday, May 2 & 3, 2014.
Seafood Fest is one of River Street’s longest running and most anticipated events of the year. Back in 1974, the Savannah Waterfront Association made River Street Seafood Fest part of their original line-up of events, creating Savannah’s original seafood festival. This year’s event will have many new activities for attendees. “We will be hosting ‘pirate in training classes’ presented by Jack Sparrow throughout the weekend,” said Carrie Bligh, Executive Director of the Savannah Waterfront Association. Old Savannah Tours very own Forrest Gump will also be making an appearance. “Festival-goers can also take part in a living history exhibit hosted by Ships of the Sea Museum, added Bligh.
Shrimp, crawfish, oysters, and crab are not the only thing being featured during this year’s event. Live entertainment will take place on the Rousakis Plaza Arbor Stage creating a beach party dance scene. “Grass skirts and Hawaiian shirts are optional but encouraged,” said Bligh. “Friday night get your fins up with Parrot Party (a Jimmy Buffet cover band) and Saturday get your feet stomping to the zydeco band Hair of the Dog,” Bligh continued. Other performances include Damon & the Sh*tkickers and Whiskey Gentry, who were both part of this year’s Savannah Stopover along with local favorite Keith and Ross.
Weekend festivities kick off on Friday, May 2 from 4-10 p.m. and continue on Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. First Friday Fireworks presented by Wet Willie’s will begin at 9:30 p.m. River Street Seafood Fest will highlight coastal inspired art from regional artisans that will be displayed along Rousakis Plaza.
This event was hosted by the Savannah Waterfront Association and proudly sponsored by Wet Willie’s, Savannah Coca-Cola, WJCL-abc, WTGS-Fox, and L&L Broadcasting.
The Savannah Waterfront Association is a 501 (c) (3) organization responsible for providing free festivals and events for the public in the River Street area. For more information, (912) 234-0295 or riverstreetsavannah.com.
