Memorial Day Weekend Events

Check out some of the fun going on this memorial day weekend in Savannah; there’s everything from art shows and sales to a family fun bug fest, pet-friendly disc competition and memorial services to honor those fallen in the line of duty.


Friday, May 23

Spring into Art

Artist Reception 6 – 9 p.m.

Tybee Arts Building, 7 Cedarwood Ave. on Tybee Island

The Tybee Arts Association’ show and sale presents local art of all kinds, including paintings, driftwood sculpture, fiber arts, stained glass, prints, jewelry, photography, art quilts, prints, glass art, pottery, handcrafted furniture and much more. There will be a gift basket raffle to benefit Tybee Island Rising Tyde Food Bank and tickets will cost $1.

SeerSucker Shots

7 – 8 p.m.

The Book Lady Bookstore, 6 E Liberty St

Enjoy a quick hit of poetry, and the last Savannah hurrah for our hosts, Erika Brown and B.J Love. This event is an offshoot of SeerSucker Live!, a fun evening of poetry, arts and entertainment, boasted as part literary reading, part talk show, part cocktail party. Music will be provided by Brian Dean and Zach Powers the featured guests include Molly Schulman, Jeff Hipsher and Steven Karl.

Saturday, May 24

Memorial Day Commemoration

9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Fort McAllister State Park, 3894 Fort McAllister Road in Richmond Hill, Ga

Pay tribute to the patriots who served our country throughout the years at Fort McAllister with cannon and musket firings, civil war demonstrations and other fun for the family. For more information, call 912-727-2339.


Bug Fest

12 – 2 p.m.

Savannah Children’s Museum, 655 Louisville Road

Come out to meet native insects and other animals and learn about their importance in our ecosystem. Fun engaging activities for families include bug goggles, a pollination game, the Scribble Art Studio and more!

Regular admission for this event – $7.50 per person


Spitfire Saturday Open Mic & Showcase

8 p.m.

Muse Arts Warehouse, 703 Louisville Rd

Join the fun with an open mic night featuring a mix of music, poetry, visual art and other modes of personal expression. Sign up begins at 7:30 and it costs $3 to sit, $5 to spit.

If you would like to sign up to spit in the open mic, it is recommended to arrive early so your shot at the mic can be reserved. There will be 20 available spots for our Spitters. Each Spitter will be allowed 4 minutes to perform an original or cover piece. This way, all of our Spitters will have a chance to set the mic to FLAME!

Armed Forces Festival

All Day

Rousakis Riverfront Plaza, 115 East River Street

There will be lots of Arts & Crafts, Patriotic Entertainment and fun for the entire family on the historic River Street. Proceeds from this event go to the Georgia National Guard Family Support Foundation. For more information about the event, call (912) 234-0295 or go to our event page. 


Hyperflite Skyhoundz Canine Disc Championship Qualifier

9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

West Chatham Middle School in Pooler, Ga

Join local dog lovers and their furry friends as they compete for a spot at the national disc competition in the fall. Food from Dickey’s Barbeque will be available for sale. This event is free for spectators and sponsored by TailsSpin and Border PAWtrol.


Savannah VVA Memorial Day Ceremony

Vietnam Vetrans Monument at Emmet Park on Bay Street

Honor all who have given their lives to defend their country. There will be music by the Brass Quintet from 3rd.Infantry Division Band at 6:30 p.m. and the program will start at 7 p.m. For more information, call Allen Harvey, the President Chapter 671, at (912)210-9118.


Monday, May 26

Chatham County Memorial Day Ceremony

9 – 11 a.m.

Bonaventure Cemetery, 330 Bonaventure Road

Join the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitian Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies as they pay tribute to the fallen officers who were killed in the line of duty. At 10 a.m. the Police Memorial Day Service will be held at the Police Officer Memorial Statue in front of the police department’s headquarter in the median of Oglethorpe Avenue.
