If you’ve walked down York Street lately, you might have noticed a new resident in Savannah’s Historic District. Nestled beneath a bright red awning, off of one of Savannah’s many city squares, is a store that houses designer shoes from all over the world: Shoe Be Do! The shop opened its doors on March 1 and has been thriving ever since.
“We’re thrilled to be here,” said Owner Andre Noujaim. “Savannah already feels like home.”
With over 20 years of experience in the shoe industry, owners Andre Noujaim and Eric Snyder began the Shoe Be Do franchise in New Orleans in 2009. Business immediately began to boom and as the good times rolled in the Big Easy, they decided it was time to bring Shoe Be Do to a new city and Savannah, with its world class shopping, historic homes and genuine Southern hospitality, was an obvious choice.
After Noujaim, who’s originally from New York, visited a friend in Savannah two years ago, he knew this was a place they needed to be.
“We fell in love with the city,” Noujaim said. “It seemed like the perfect place for Shoe Be Do’s unique style.”
Style is one thing that isn’t in short supply when it comes to Noujaim and Snyder. The duo are former owners of two stores on the Eastern Seaboard, one in New York and the other in Atlantic City, and are known for carrying one-of-a-kind pieces that could be considered both art and fashion. At Shoe Be Do customers will find trendy designs as well as ones that push the envelope.
“Our shoes are for the woman who has a classic style and the woman who wants to break down the boundaries of fashion,” Snyder said with a smile. “We have something for everyone.”
The store also has a website, where customers can get all their styles delivered to their doorstep with free shipping.
The pair continues to keep their eyes on the future, already looking for the next Shoe Be Do home.
“We’re thinking Charleston,” Noujaim reveals. “But nothing is set in stone. Only time will tell.”
So if you’re out and about shopping, or just taking a stroll in Wright Square, venture down to 7 York St. and look for the red awning. You’ll find Andre Noujaim waiting with a smile and the perfect shoe for you, whether that’s a pair of heels to dine out at some of Savannah’s best restaurants or some sandals to explore the beaches of Tybee Island in.
Shoe Be Do is open daily from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and on Sunday from noon until 5 p.m. For more information, call (912) 495-5076.
