Thanks to Mamie Ruth | M.Liz Studios, Downtown Savannah will have the chance to enjoy a shopping, restaurant, bar and boutique-hopping night full of fun on Dec. 1, 2016 from 6-9 p.m. Dubbed “The Liberty Lineup,” this special night spreading a spotlight on the shops on and around Savannah’s Liberty Street.
Hotels, restaurants, bars and boutiques are all joining in to celebrate small businesses and invite local, regional, national and international guests to come and join the fun, as shops stay open late, offering specials receptions and promotions throughout the evening.
“We wanted to create something different by showcasing the unique gems of Savannah that customers wouldn’t necessarily find on their own. The type of one-of-a-kind places we love finding when traveling in different cities,” said Emily Bargeron, the owner of Mamie Ruth.
She and Mary Liz Craft, who together own Mamie Ruth | M. Liz Jewelry Studios & Boutique at Liberty and Drayton streets, realized the need for a way to highlight all that was around Liberty Street and enlisted artist Gaby LaRosa to create a map, which focuses on the Liberty-area of Historic District, for the event. Sammy Lazinski, one of their design interns, also helped with some finishing touches on the map. Participants such as Satchel and The Hilton DeSoto will be illustrated on the custom postcard style map, designed by LaRosa.
“Gaby LaRosa is the perfect person to help us with the map,” Katie Hurley, communications director, said. “She’s one of the most upbeat individuals we know, so her excitement and enthusiasm has kept the momentum going with this concept and map itself.”
Plans for this map and the event have been simmering for two years.
“Since opening up about two years ago, we’ve wanted to create a map of the Liberty Street neighborhood,” Bargeron said. “The most common question we get from customers is for suggestions on other locally owned shops nearby. It will be great to hand customers a map with all of our favorite hot spots on the street!”
The Liberty Lineup will span from East to West Liberty Street anchored between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and East Broad Street. Additionally, it will branch both north and south of Bull Street to East Charlton and East Perry streets. Everything form East Perry to Bull, Liberty, Charlton and Abercorn streets will be included on the map, with participating businesses highlighted.
Get out, greet and meet shop owners and chat with community members, while enjoying everything from art and fashion to crafted cocktails and small bites curated for this special night. Stop by Mirabelle’s Cafe for some hot chocolate and celebrate anniversaries with Parlour, Salon Tribe and Mamie Ruth | M. Liz Jewelry Studios & Boutique.
Craft and Bargeron have committed to donating a percentage of the evening’s sales to the A-Town Get Down Foundation, a locally-based organization known for its annual festival in February, which celebrates creativity in all facets. A-Town funds after-school art programming to underserved students in our local community who attend Title I schools.
