Worship
Savannah has always been a spiritual city, with a variety of places of worship. In his original city plan for Savannah, General James Oglethorpe envisioned a place of worship on each of the city's squares. Today, most of the squares in the historic district host a church or synagogue.
Many of Savannah's churches, cathedrals and synagogues feature a rich and fascinating history. From the historic district to the outlying islands, Savannah has literally hundreds of churches. These are just some of Savannah's unique places of worship. All of them welcome modern-day worshippers, but be sure to call to find out exactly when services are held.
