The Tourism Leadership Council (TLC) is hosting a photo contest for 2017 cover of their coffee table book, “Savannah: A Southern Journey,” a premier guidebook featuring photography and valuable information to anyone visiting the Savannah area—and they want to hear from you!
The book is seen by about 4 million people per year and found in over 6,000 hotel rooms around the city. Last year the TLC received more than 600 photos in their photo contest for the cover before selecting a beautiful shot from the ground of the iconic cobblestones on River Street taken by Joey Gaston, who was stationed at Hunter Army Airfield and serving in Afghanistan when TLC notified him that he won the contest. His aim was, and is, to capture pictures that make people want to get outside and experience adventure and nature.
The other 2015 finalists included Ali Competiello, who submitted a photo of the Talmadge Bridge, Kim Turner, who sent in an image of the Ballastone Inn and Litus Marshall, who took a photo of River Street at night, as well as Michael Grafton and Rodney Gary who both submitted images of Wormsloe Historic Site and John Alexander and Kip Pears, who photographed the fountain at Forsyth Park.
This year, the TLC is looking for a new perspective for the 8th edition’s cover, and they want to get a look at how everyone else in Savannah sees the city! The photo should depict a scene that fully embodies the spirit of the city of Savannah.
“We’re looking for a cover photo that sums up Savannah in one picture. Capturing Savannah is not just about one person’s perspective; it’s about a global perspective, seeing our beautiful city through the eyes of others,” said Molly Swagler, the editor of “Savannah: A Southern Journey.” “That’s why we are looking for the point of view of visitors as well as residents.”
If your photo is selected, not only will four million people see it, but you’ll also win a free two-night stay at the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa!
Entries will be accepted until September 1, 2016, and all content must be completely original. Photos must be a JPG or a TIF, 300 dpi or higher, and the dimensions must be 8” x 10”. You can also submit as many photos as you like! The entrant must have complete ownership rights to the photos submitted.
The TLC Board of Directors will select the finalists and then voters will then determine the winner with an online poll. For more information or to enter you photo into the contest, go to tourismleadershipcouncil.com/southernjourneycover.
