After about 18 months of construction in Downtown Savannah, Homewood Suites can finally call East River Street its home. This brand new hotel, just a short walk past all the monuments along the river, is now one of River Street’s largest hotels with 160 suites.
“We are the only all-suite hotel, meaning every room in our property is set up as a suite,” said Whip Triplett, executive vice president of North Point Hospitality Group.
Each suite is complete with a sleeper sofa, 42-inch HD TV, complimentary Wi-Fi, a dining area that doubles as a workspace and a fully equipped kitchen.
“It’s not often you can find a hotel that features a full-size refrigerator, microwave, two-burner stove and dishwasher all within the comfort of your hotel room,” said Triplett.
Guests have the option of one king bed, one queen bed or two queen beds and will find suites ranging from 280 square feet to 675 square feet. All studios with one bed have a walk-in glass shower while studios with two beds feature a tub/shower combination.
In addition to the comforts that each room provides, Homewood Suites also has a 24-hour business center and fitness center, 2,000 square feet of meeting space, which can accommodate up to 100 people, and a heated resort-style pool and whirlpool on the roof with cabanas featuring flat-screen televisions and a soon-to-be rooftop bar.
“We are very excited about the roof top bar space. This intimate outdoor space is really designed for our in-house guests,” said Triplett. “I don’t know many other places where you can be so close to the large container ships while relaxing in a roof top pool.”
Other amenities include free hot breakfast daily, a complimentary evening social Monday through Thursday, 5 p.m.-7 p.m., a 24-hour onsite convenience store, guest laundry facility, onsite concierge services and complimentary grocery shopping service.
But it’s not just the amenities that make this new hotel special; it’s the fact that they are using solar panels to harness sustainable energy which not only saves money but reduces their carbon footprint and takes a step in the direction towards a cleaner community.
“We chose to go with solar PV on the high roof because we want to see how it works here in Savannah and if we can scale it up to our larger projects both here in Savannah and elsewhere in the Southeast. To our knowledge, we are the only hotel in the Historic District currently utilizing solar panels.”
But that’s not the only green choice Homewood Suites is making. With intensive green roofs located on the third and eighth floor, Homewood Suites is able to cut down on the thermal load on the building. These green roofs, which are similar to a raised planting bed, also serve as a rainwater containment system and reduce the amount of runoff from the building.
Homewood Suites is the first of three hotels in the River Street East development which will also include up to a 600-space parking garage, 50,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space and 320 linear feet of floating dock on the Savannah River.
Homewood Suites by Hilton Savannah Historic District/Riverfront is located at 611 East River Street. For more information about the hotel, call (912) 355-0025 or click here to visit their website.
