On Thursday, March 23, 2017, the Tybee Post Theatre will present Girls Night Out: “20th Century Women” at 7 p.m. Their special night for the ladies features a new release starring Annette Bening. In 1979 Santa Barbara, Calif., Dorothea Fields is a determined single mother in her mid-50s who is raising her adolescent son, Jamie, at a moment brimming with cultural change and rebellion. Dorothea enlists the help of two younger women—Abbie, a free-spirited punk artist living as a boarder in the Fields’ home and Julie, a savvy and provocative teenage neighbor—to help with Jamie’s upbringing.
Mike Mills received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay, but Bening, while winning or received nominations for Best Actress in more than a dozen other film awards this year, was snubbed by Oscar. Gals, gather your girlfriends and come out and cheer on Annette in a very relatable role!
Your $10 ticket gets you this fine film, a complimentary glass of wine and a pack of hankies. You bring the shoulders to cry on.
