Born and raised in Jacksonville, Fl., Terry ‘Doc’ Handy soulfully demonstrates a musical immensity on the conga drums in a majestic harmonious manner, permeating hearts of all who attend one of his concerts.   He draws his inspiration from such greats as Ralph McDonald, Giovanni Hidalgo, and Bill Summers.  Doc has played percussion for over 30 years over a diverse array of genres including Rhythm & Blues, Jazz, and Latin Jazz.  Doc has performed in Europe, Korea, and Panama.  Doc has also opened for many greats including James Brown, Aaran Neville, Macy Gray, Kool and the Gang, Kirk Whalum, and Brian Culbertson.
Mr. Handy has the ability to fuse Afro-Cuban percussion with jazz to create an infectious swing that leaves his audiences yelling for more.  Doc effortlessly infuses the cultural power of the African conga drum beats to drive the ancestral emotion of unity and healing that tells a story.   Even though he is a refined student of music, he lights up the landscape anywhere he performs.  A harmonious experience of spellbinding music is exactly what ‘The Doc’ orders.
