“Sk8…A Day in My Shoes”
The Community at Large is Encouraged to Come Out & Skate in Honor of All Families Affected by Diabetes!
The American Diabetes Association and Sk8 City announce a special fundraising event on December 2nd from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Sk8 City (4 Towne Center Court, Pooler, GA 31322) to bring much needed attention to Type 1 diabetes during American Diabetes Month. The theme of the event is “Sk8 … A Day in My Shoes” to show the extraordinary effort that it takes to live an ordinary day with Type 1 Diabetes. The event is open to the public and admission is just $6.00 per person and includes a free skate rental. The event will also feature a raffle and other special give-aways to all who attend.
All families whether affected by diabetes or not, are encouraged to come out and skate. The Sk8 City Sirens, a girl’s junior roller derby team who call Sk8 City home, will also be there to meet and showcase their swift skating skills.
The Sk8 City roller rink is an 11,000 square foot facility that provides a first-class indoor roller skating experience with plenty of arcade-style games, separate group party rooms, and a snack and beverage area.
The event will recognize the achievements of young people living with Type 1 diabetes. Several local area kids will be officially honored for their perseverance and spirit in living an active, healthy life with Type 1 Diabetes.
Anders and Grady Olson, two brothers living with Type 1 Diabetes, will be sharing their story at the event. Their mother and a local resident of Savannah, Pamela Olson, tells their story of courage, perseverance and family support.
