On Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, the Savannah Philharmonic presents “From the New World” at the Lucas Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Dvořák’s beloved Symphony No. 9, with its well-known melodies inspired by Longfellow’s Hiawatha, is the centerpiece of this powerful concert. The Savannah Philharmonic Chorus joins the orchestra in another work based on the same source by African-British composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. These masterpieces use traditional American melodies to paint scenes of miracle and marvel; it all adds up to a memorable evening. Tickets are $15-80.
