Every year, Irish Catholics join together to celebrate their heritage with family and friends in Emmet Park. On Sunday, March 12, 2017, the 31st annual Celtic Cross Ceremony will be held at the Celtic cross statue in Emmet Park. Before the ceremony, there is mass at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist at 11:30 a.m. Afterwards, everyone makes their way to Emmet Park, where bagpipes will play as different members of the Irish community step up and speak out about the past, present and future. It’s a tradition and way of honoring the Irish community that isn’t going away any time soon. After the ceremony at 1 p.m., a reception follows at 2:30 with food and refreshments.
