SAVANNAH WATERFRONT ASSOCIATION HOSTS ART CONTEST AND DONATION DRIVE TO
BENEFIT LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
SAVANNAH, GA –River Street Art Fest will take place April 4-5 during First Friday & Saturday on historic River Street. This year’s event will combine a fine arts show with interactive art and entertainment for all age groups to enjoy. The festival weekend will be a celebration of visual arts, music, theater and dance! Select regional and national artisans will be invited to display and sell their hand crafted art.
To assist local elementary schools with much needed art supplies the Savannah Waterfront Association will be hosting an art contest. Savannah Coca-Cola has donated syrup barrels that students will design and decorate for the festival. The themes for the designs are school spirit, scenes of Savannah, and of course River Street! The decorated barrels will be displayed at River Street Art Fest and used to hold art supplies donated by the community. In addition the barrels will be judged and awards will be given to the schools whose classes created the top three designs.
There are 28 classes representing 14 Chatham County Schools in the competition. Participating schools include: Esther F. Garrison School of Visual and Performing Arts, Haven Elementary, Heard Elementary, Hodge Elementary, Islands High School (students with special needs), Isle of Hope Elementary, Jacob G. Smith Elementary, Marshpoint Elementary, Pooler Elementary, Port Wentworth Elementary, Pulaski Elementary, Shuman Elementary, Thunderbolt Elementary and White Bluff Elementary.
Each class has submitted a wish list of art supplies and the barrels will be used throughout the festival weekend to collect donations. Advance donations can be delivered to the Savannah Waterfront Association Office at 404 East Bay Street.
This event is hosted by the Savannah Waterfront Association and proudly sponsored by Wet Willie’s, Savannah Coca-Cola, BLICK Art Materials, and our friends at L&L Broadcasting. Enjoy Savannah Riverfront: The Way to Experience Savannah.
