The Art Show at the JEA Art Gallery will feature the works of Robert and Mona Segall. They are husband and wife. Both are Savannah natives. Robert subject matter varies, from Savannah land- and seascapes to portraits, still life, and famous jazz musicians. He has also been commissioned for architectural renderings. “My love of Savannah and its surrounding waterways is evident in many of my works, as are the images I’ve created of the jazz music and musicians to whom I owe so much of my inspiration,” says Robert. SEPTEMBER 3-5: Fort Pulaski National Monument will end the summer season with a series of special activities and programs related to daily tasks in a Civil War era fort. The weekend will consist of Guided Fort Tours, Cannon Firing, Musket Firing and a demonstration of mixing lime mortar and brick repointing. At the Cartridge Factory, learn how to make your own musket cartridges. The Armorer, a Civil War soldier repairs and cleans muskets. From home grown to nationally known, Stephen Bass out of Savannah, Georgia is part of the nationally televised show The Ultimate Fighter 14 cast. Royce Learning Center to host 5th Annual Evening of Jazz for Adult Literacy at 7:30 p.m. at the Lucas Theater. National Public Lands Day 2011 has been declared a fee-free day at all National Park Service sites. Savannah Navy League to Hold Low Country Boil plus Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue Demonstration. The Savannah Council, Navy League of the United States will hold its monthly dinner meeting at Coast Guard Station Tybee on Tuesday, starting at 6 PM. A helicopter rescue demonstration will be conducted by USCG Air Station Savannah in the Savannah River adjacent to Station Tybee about 6:45 PM, followed by a low country boil / barbeque picnic dinner. Coast Guard Station Tybee is located adjacent to Fort Pulaski, off of US 80 / Tybee Road. The Georgia Rural Health Association recently presented Senator Earl “Buddy” Carter (R-Pooler) its Legislator of the Year Award during their annual conference held at Callaway Gardens September 19-21st. Sen. Carter was born and raised in Port Wentworth, GA. He and his family have been residents of Pooler since 1980. He attended public schools in Chatham County and attended Young Harris College. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy from the University of Georgia. Sen. Carter has been a rural pharmacists his entire career, as well as, strongly supporting rural initiatives throughout his legislative career. Sen. Carter worked as a staff Pharmacist and Pharmacy Manager at Rupert Heller’s Prescriptions in Garden City from 1980 until 1988. In 1988 he opened his first Retail Pharmacy, Carter’s Pharmacy, Inc. in Pooler. In 1992 he opened another business, Carter’s Institutional Pharmacy Inc., a business serving nursing homes, personal care homes and hospices. In 2005, he was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives where he served until September of 2009. In November 2009, he was elected to the Georgia State Senate Representing District 1.
