“Conquered Banners: Georgia’s Civil War Flags” are on display at the Georgia Historical Society. Sea Camp Coastal Kids Ocean Adventure – Coastal Adventure. Explore the Tybee Island seashore for the ultimate coastal adventure. Come face-to-face with a variety of sea animals. Learn to identify seashells, turtles, dolphins and more in this interactive camp. For ages 6-8. Each Sea Camp is four days long, Mon.-Thurs. and consists of a total of eight modules, two each day. “Country Star Revue,” a two-hour salute to the music of the great country stars of the past 50 years. Singing Cowboys, bluegrass, folk, gospel and honky tonk from the 1930s-1940s. Rockabilly, country soul and country rock were popular during the ‘50s and ‘60s. Country Pop, Truck Driving country and Neocountry were all popular throughout the ‘70s and ’80s. Mix all this together with today’s popular hits for a well-rounded Country Star Revue from the band and cast of the Savannah Theatre. “Sea Turtle Release”, 1- 3pm, Burton 4-H Center, 9 Lewis Ave., Tybee Island. Free and open to the public. The Savannah Folk Music Society will introduce “the class of 2011”…fourteen new “art guitars” to be auctioned in support of the 2011 Savannah Folk Music Festival. This will occur along with the first appearances of Florida’s great guitarist, Barry Brogan, and singer/songwriter Lee Tyler Post. “Some of the guitars will appear at Portman’s Music Superstore on Abercorn Street during the month of August and all of the guitars will be displayed in an exhibit at the Ellis Square Visitors Center from Sept. 7th through October 7th. Georgia Southern Evening Course Preps HR Pros for National Exam. Starting Sept. 6, this fall’s 12-week Certificate in Professional HR Management class in Savannah provides an in-depth study of key areas in human resources. While open to anyone, this exam-prep course helps HR professionals planning to certify as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior PHR through the December-January certification exam. The 2011 T-shirt Design Contest is a special feature of this year’s Six Gap Century & Three Gap Fifty Bike Ride, Presented by Lynskey Performance Designs. Cut the Ribbon, Cut the Cake! Tybee Island Wedding Chapel Grand Opening Celebration. Cut the Ribbon, Cut the Cake!, open to the public, on Friday. Beginning at 10:30 a.m. At this exclusive event, David Tutera of WE-TV’s My Fair Wedding will be cutting the ribbon and the cake. 4th Annual Hugh H. Armstrong Sr. Memorial Kayak for a Kure. Paddle the beautiful 3-mile Skidaway River from Butterbean Beach to the UGA Marine Extension Service Aquarium. Bring your own equipment: kayak, paddle, life jacket and other items you need to complete the paddle. The Chatham Young Democrats and Chatham County Democrat Committee, Host Democrats & Pancakes – Breakfast & Mayoral Forum featuring Edna Jackson & Regina Thomas. Jazz Just Across the River: “Barbara Rosene, who is the vocalist with the Harry James Orchestra will perform a tribute to the master of lyric, Johnny Mercer. Recently Ms. Rosene has been touring with The Harry James Big Band led by Fred Radke. They have been visiting cities all over America and Canada including performances at The Montreal Jazz Festival. The concert is free for Coastal Jazz Association members and $10 for non-members. Attendees who join CJA while at the concert will also be admitted for free. AUGUST 17-SEPTEMBER 9:
Manager/Supervisor Short Course Covers Practical. Leadership Issues Georgia Southern University’s Leadership Skills for the Front-Line Manager short course will run across eight Wednesdays this fall in Savannah. Designed for managers, lead supervisors and other bosses, the course provides leaders with better methods to motivate and manage their work-teams. The 32-hour course runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Wednesday from Sept. 21 through Nov. 9 at the Coastal Georgia Center. Each four-hour class addresses a single leadership topic: making the transition to leadership; the law on employment management; improving communication skills; practical problem-solving and decision-making; developing people – coaching, counseling and training; improving morale and motivation; handling conflict and criticism; or leadership styles. The $625 course fee is discounted to $575 per person for four or more from the same organization. After noon, Sept. 2 the late fee of $700 applies for all registrations. AUGUST 24:
Preventing Spread of Disease is Focus of OSHA Seminar. Practical training and national health policy play a key role in preventing diseases from spreading through the American population. Through its OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard seminar in Statesboro on Sept. 7, Georgia Southern University provides training on minimizing the dangers of bloodborne pathogens like Hepatitis B, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), and malaria. Training will run 2:30 – 4:30 p.m., Sept. 7, in the Nessmith-Lane Continuing Education Building on campus. The seminar is one in a series of workplace health and safety training seminars in Savannah and Statesboro this summer and fall. AUGUST 25:
Fort Pulaski National Monument will celebrate the establishment of the National Park Service 95 years ago. Congress established the National Park Service on August 25, 1916 with the passing of the National Park Service Organic Act.  This day, now known as “Founders Day”, commemorates the creation of the National Park Service “to conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and the wild life therein and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations.To celebrate the 95th birthday of the National Park Service, Fort Pulaski National Monument will provide complimentary cake to visitors at the park’s Visitor Center between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.  The Visitor Center will also be showing excerpts from Ken Burns’ documentary “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea”.  Visitor Center hours will be 8:45 AM to 6:45 PM. AUGUST 30:
The Savannah Center for Financial Wellness is a guest speaker for Adam Lee, an Edward Jones financial advisor in Savannah. Adam, featuring the local Dave Ramsey spokesperson Sarah Wescott, is hosting a free 50-minute educational seminar titled “Foundations of Investing” seminar at 6-8 p.m. Savannah Morning News Auditorium located on 1375 Chatham Parkway, During the seminar, participants will learn more about: The key features of bonds, stocks and mutual funds, the importance of asset allocation and the impact of inflation on your long-term goals.The seminar is free, but space is limited.
